TMMSN Educational Necropsies
The
Marine Mammal Necropsy Experience
Appropriate for ages 14 and up, this experience
gives participants a detailed, hands-on anatomical study of a real
marine mammal specimen. During a necropsy, or animal autopsy, each
specimen is carefully dissected to reveal unique anatomical structures
and to collect data that may help determine the animal’s cause of death. All necropsies are conducted at the TMMSN facility in Galveston,
TX, and specimen availability is limited. Necropsy experiences are
subject to change based on live animal rehabilitations in progress.
