Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why are you in Louisiana?
A: The National Oceans and Atmosphere Administration (NOAA)
has asked TMMSN to cover a large portion of Louisiana for marine
mammal stranding first response and education of the public about
marine mammal strandings.
Q: What will you be doing that is
different in LA?
A: After the hurricanes of 2004 and 2005, the LMMSN
ceased to operate due to the destruction of their infrastructure, so
TMMSN has agreed to cover their territory to Morgan's Point, LA.
With our airboat we will be able to effectively survey the coastline
for deceased marine mammals and provide efficient first-reponse for
live marine mammals found during the survey or called in through our
national paging system.
