Construction is complete on the New TMMSN/NOAA Marine Mammal Rehabilitation and Research Facility in Galveston, TX
We are pleased to announce that NOAA recently completed construction on a new facility for the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network
based in Galveston, TX. The new 5000 sq. foot facility is custom designed with the following:

Accommodations for up to two simultaneous marine mammal rehabilitations with a separate and sealed necropsy lab, including the following:
Several new items will be needed for maintenance and
operations and to utilize the features of the new MMR
building. The items include, but are not limited to
the following, and are also continued on our

-Custom designed in-ground tank with space and plumbing for a pop-up temporary tank
-Plumbing designed to fill the large in-ground tank to a swimming level or higher in 30 minutes or less
-Custom curtain/ventilation for separating airspace for two rehabilitations
-Wide doors on both ends of rehab area and in necropsy lab for truck access
-Overhead I-beam tracks in both necropsy and rehabilitation areas for hoisting
and transporting animals
-Custom drainage and floor, ceiling, wall preparation
-Fresh salt water supply and storage tanks, with modern water
filtration and sanitation

* Full necropsy lab and workshop with modern equipment, independent
drainage and independent ventilation, custom drainage and
floor, ceiling, wall preparation

All aspects of the new building have been designed to the specifications of marine mammal
rehabilitation and research.
