PI122

PI222 Melon-headed Whale Peponocephala electra

Stranded alive in South Padre Island on April 27, 2007. The animal was recovered by University of Texas Pan America & TMMSN volunteers. He was very emaciated upon stranding and extremely weak and ill. Unfortunately, his health only continued to decline over the course of the next couple of days and he passed away on Sunday, April 29, 2007.

Everyone down in South Padre did a fantastic job taking on this rehab and although the outcome was not successful, there is still much to learn regarding this species. A necropsy was performed that evening in South Padre.
