Sandy

CC233 Sandy-Peponocephala electra

Stranded alive in Corpus Christi, TX on March 26, 2006.

Sandy was an adult, male Melon-headed Whale that stranded and was recovered by TMMSN. He was not well upon arriving and his health continued to decline despite our efforts.

Although it was a difficult decision, it was in the animal’s best interest to euthanize. We often see this to be the case with unusual or offshore species at times as they do not seem to respond to rehab as well as others might. Heavy consultation is done across the country and all options are considered before making this type of difficult decision.
